How to start your Music Knights

Starting a music club is easy, but it does require two things that sometimes difficult to find, organization and motivation.  Since I was really motivated to do this, I was the one who volunteered my time to organize a date and time, my place to have it and a few bucks to pay for some snacks and booze.  Also, you need to figure out an effective way of playing the music.  My recommendation is to use a service like Spotify and ask everyone to make their playlists there.  Having every on the same platform just makes listening to music simpler and minimizes issues.  However, there will probably be someone who doesn't use Spotify, or you will move to video playlists but jumping on WIFI or using a Bluetooth speaker are easy solutions.  So here is an example the first Music Knight but look at all of our blogs about the different formats.  Choose one and have fun.

1. Have the right crew - Choose a group of guys you know love music and if possible, have a wide variety of tastes in music.  I think finding the right crew is important, some guys may be a blast to hang with but might not be into music and may not be into this. I sent out an email to the group of guys and told them what I wanted to do and they all responded they were in.

2. Figure out the logistics - As anyone who has organized a party or get together, this is generally the most difficult to get done.  Figure out who is going to host, what date and what time.  Then get commitments from each of your crew, an email invite always helps.  Our Music Knights are generally on Thursday nights and last from 8 PM to about 11 PM.  But the logistics really depend on what the circumstances are in your and your crew's life.

3. Figure out the music - Now the good part, what to do?  How to do it?  That is where this site can hopefully give you some good ideas.  Check out all our blogs and see what resonates with you and your crew.  Our first one was "What are you listening to right now?"  Just a playlist of your favorite four or five songs you have been listening to recently.  It is great for the first night, it introduces everyone's tastes to the group.

4. Send your playlists to the host - This isn't 100% necessarily but on the first night it generally makes things easy.  That way the host can either make one large playlist on one platform which makes it very simple.  But it is up to you, sometimes people don't get the host a playlist in time, sometimes they don't have an account on the platform you are using.  Another format is let everyone have access to your speakers via Bluetooth or WIFI and just rotate to someone else after each song.  We have done this a few times and we even wrote down each song and made a few awesome playlists.

5. Listen and Have Fun - Once you have the logistics set, get your crew together, have the refreshments you want and get into it.  But be flexible and let everyone contribute, that is going to make it the most fun.

6. Organize the next Music Knight - One trick for setting up regular Music Knights, make sure you figure out when the next one will be, who will host and most importantly what will be the theme.  The date and host can always change but figuring out the theme or playlist will be a great conversation starter and will get people excited about next time.
